I grew up playing on this fantastic instrument, and have missed it. ...yep, after 91 years of age, it's needs some care and new strings, but oh boy, it's going to be fantastic!
Such a wonderful day at Sherwood Music School! Almost 30 students performed for Judge Juanita Becker. Superiors and Superior pluses for these fine students. First year through fifth year auditions and a full day of pride and smiles at all the beautiful music that was accomplished! It was Eve Becker's 2nd year of auditions. She earned a Superior rating! Congratulations Eve!
Marlene Chastain was our esteemed judge this year. Six students travelled from the Chicago and North Shore suburbs to perform for Mrs. Chastain. Students played two to eight pieces by memory with scales and chord cadences.
First time auditions as well as seasoned participants all walked away with high scores. Congratulations students! Finn made the highest scores of my students participating in Festival this year. This was his third year, and having made high scores three years in a row, he earned two 15 point gold cup trophies. This year Finn participated in the Primary III Solo Performance & Musicianship 3- Theory exam. Congratulations to Finn and all my students!
In additions to this year's downtown Chicago location at Sherwood School of Music on May 22nd. There will be a Skokie audition center at Five Hands Studio on Saturday May 6th.
Students may enter either event, depending on schedule and location preference. The deadline for applications is fast approaching, so students are strongly encouraged to request their locations as soon as possible. This year's downtown Chicago Guild auditions will take place again & Sherwood School of Music on Monday May 22nd.
Students participating will perform a two to twenty piece program for this year's Guild judge. Performances will included a diversity of music repertoire from all periods of music, plus scales & chord cadences. Students also have the opportunity to be judged on sight reading, transposition, improvisation, ear training and other musical skills. This event is highly recommended for students to have a yearly assessment of their progress from a qualified and friendly judge. Hundreds of students gathered for our Festival events this year! I witnessed over 60 myself in just one room. The students were well prepared and the judges and myself were treated to many fine young performers showing off their skills.
This year's event was even more fun for me as I was able to see several of my students perform and receive well deserved high scores. Congratulations to my students in Room 224, and all the participants! |
